Keeping your ice bath water clean is essential to ensure a refreshing, hygienic, and effective cold plunge experience. Here are my top tips on maintaining clean water in your ice bath, including some handy accessories to make the process easier and more effective. Personally, I follow this routine after each plunge and you will have to worry about changing your ice bath water just once a month or less (during the colder months).
Use an Ozone Filter for Natural, Powerful, Hassle-Free Disinfection
An Ozone Filter is a must-have to your ice bath setup, providing a simple yet powerful way to keep your water free from bacteria, algae, viruses, and other contaminants. Ozone is a natural disinfectant that doesn't require any harsh chemicals. To use it, simply plug in the filter and place the air hose in the water for 15–30 minutes after each use or daily, which is enough to keep the water fresh and hygienic.
Important: Ozone shouldn’t be inhaled directly, as it can be harmful. Fortunately, it dissipates quickly from the water and mixes into the air. If you're using the ozone filter indoors, we recommend briefly opening a window to allow the ozone to disperse safely. Also, make sure the filter is turned off while you’re in the ice bath.
No need to spend money regularly on filter cartridges, Epsom salts, frequent water changesor a bulky, ultra-expensive filtration system.

Inflate the Ring Correctly
Make sure the inflatable ring looks like it does in our photos – perfectly round, not square or pentagon-shaped. If it’s not round, you likely need to add more air.
One common misunderstanding is underinflating the ring. A properly inflated ring improves stability, ensures a snug fit for the cover, prevents it from flying away, and keeps out rain and debris.

Regularly Skim and Clean the Water
Even with covers and filters, some dirt or leaves can find their way into your ice bath.
Use a small pool skimmer or net to remove any floating debris that may accumulate on the water’s surface or ground.
Do This When You Change Your Ice Bath Water
While the above methods significantly extend the life of your ice bath water, it’s still a good idea to change it periodically. Depending on usage and temperature, I personally change my water once every 4-5 weeks in colder conditions, which keeps it fresh and safe for use.
By following these steps and using the Ozone Filter, Thermo Lid, or ThermoDome, you can maintain a consistently clean and cold plunge experience. Safe Storage for Your Ice Pod
When storing your ice bath, make sure it’s thoroughly clean and dry! Otherwise, you might be surprised by mold the next time you use it! Deflate it carefully, fold without sharp creases according to the included manual, and keep it inside the included carrying bag in a cool, shaded spot to protect the material.
